How To Make Your Makeup Routine More Sustainable and Eco-Friendly

In recent years, sustainability has become the go-to buzzword in the beauty and wellness industry. With more and more brands vowing to switch to sustainable practices and new eco-friendly products cropping up, it’s clear to see that this is more than just a fad. Taking the time to look at your makeup routine and make it more eco-friendly is one of the most effective things you - as as individual - can do for the planet. The three pillars of making any beauty routine more sustainable are: reuse, reduce, and recycle. Let’s explore how you can do exactly that when it comes to make- up.

3 cs of using your blog to sell

Ditch the disposable

One of the biggest threats to the planet is single-use products such as plastic straws, bags and of course, wipes. Makeup wipes are not recyclable or flushable so they have to be disposed of in a rubbish bin. However many people flush them anyway and Water UK have previously said that because of this 93% of sewage blockages are due to makeup wipes. According to the FDA< cleaning wipes are made of materials such as polyester, polypropylene, cotton, wood pulp, or rayon fibres, many of which are not biodegradable. Not only that, makeup wipes are incredibly abrasive and not the best way to remove your makeup. Consider switching to reusable cotton pads you can clean and re-use with a gentle cream-based cleanser instead.

Look for recyclable packaging

If you’re looking to decrease your carbon footprint, buying beauty products that use recyclable materials and packaging is a great way to do that. Aim to buy products that are made from materials are that are safe and easy to recycle such as glass. Many companies will also implement a recycle scheme so you can send your empties straight to them and they’ll do the hard work for you. We are proud to be one of those companies! We are constantly keeping up to date with the newer developments in environmentally responsible packaging. The main components of our packaging utilise recycled aluminium, paper and glass. We have also partnered with TerraCycle UK on their Zero Waste box scheme that provides customers the means to return products without worrying about them ending up in landfill.

Consider refillable products

If you have some staples you can’t bear to part with, it’s worth seeing if the brand offers refills. If not, try make the switch to a brand that does. Refillable products allows you to avoid the need to repurchase and they’re also zero-waste.
